Weekend With Our Pumpkin

It has been a long time since I have blogged. So much has happened since September 1st. Grant has been going to the Pulmonologist. They have him taking breathing treatments twice a day for cough/breathing difficulties. It really does seem to be improving. Grant has had an Upper GI, X-Rays and a Sweat Test. Our little guy has been through the testing stages and we are so glad to report that Cystic Fibrosis is not an issue! We are so thankful and...relieved! Grant was quite a trooper for all of the tests. I have pics of him strapped to a board for the Upper GI test and of him with bands on his arm for the sweat test. I hope to add these pics to his scrapbook so he can see the testing ordeal when he gets older.

I have recently started scrapping and I am hooked! I love it and I am glad to have a so called "hobby." It's not a cheap hobby at first, but it is so much fun!

We took Grant to a Pumpkin Patch this weekend. We had a great time. Kenny says he thinks I enjoyed it the most. I really did! The weather was great and Grant was really interested in his surroundings.

I took Grant to Wal-Mart this morning..it was EARLY! Well, Mr. G has really discovered his voice and he just babbled and carried on the entire time. I kept shushing him - but he didn't care. I know it was bothersome to some folks, but I found it rather humorous. I just love watching him Grow and discover new things. I have said it before and I will say it again..."why on earth did I wait so long to have a child?" All I can really think is God knew exactly when we were ready and He gave us our Son. What a blessing!

Labor Day Weekend

We had a very relaxing non-eventful holiday weekend. Grant has been battling a cough for several weeks, so we thought it best to just stay in and hopefully that would help Grant's cough get better.

Grant is on asthma medicine and an acid reflux pill. We don't know what is causing his cough - but it seems to be happening less and has a "dry" sound to it. We think his cough is getting better -we just hope the doctor agrees! Grant experienced an allergic reaction to applesauce. He has eaten all of his veggies with no problem. After eating Peas for a week, we tried applesauce, he got all blotchy around his eyes and forehead. After we stopped feeding it to him, he cleared up immediately. Only time will tell what is really going on. I feel like its all combined and I am unsure how to sort it all out. It would be nice if the doctor had an easy answer. We shall see....

Grant is becoming more vocal, loves to giggle and is rolling around like crazy. He is thinking more and more about crawling, but decides to roll around instead.

Aunt "Ya Ya" Kim came over today and spent lots of time with Grant. He just loved being with her and I know the feeling was mutual on Kim's part.

We discovered today that the tires on my black jeep are "bald". Lovely. So, Kenny gets to take my car in tomorrow and get me 4 new tires. For those of you who don't know...I gave up my Orange Jeep to trade in for a Honda Fit. In return, I inherited the Black Jeep. Now that we are going to have to buy new tires for the Jeep - I can say...I miss MY Jeep!!!
We also have exciting news of a new neighbor. Our neighbors across the street had a baby boy this week. He is cute and has lots of hair. We are all excited about our boys growing up together and hopefully playing soccer one day! We can always dream!
We are ready for a healthy week ahead and we pray that September will be a healthy month for all the Rabe family!

What a Week!

This has been a whole different kind of week for us. We started out Sunday going to church. We visited a church in Forney for the first time and we already love it! We can't wait to go back. What a wonderful way to start the week.

Kenny found out on Monday that he was going out of town Tuesday through Thursday. So, we got things together and got him all packed up. Tuesday morning we noticed that Grant was congested and had a cough, but we didn't think too much about it. When Grant got up on Wednesday, the cough was real deep and sounded bad. So, I did what any good mother would do...I took him to the doctor! One chest x-ray later, he has an upper respiratory infection. Bless his heart! So, I stayed home with him the rest of the day trying to comfort him.

Wednesday was also JoAnn's birthday. Richard and JoAnn came out to the house and brought dinner. I so appreciated a little adult interaction. I really don't know how all the stay-at-home mom's do it! Grant has to stay out of daycare for the rest of the week, so JoAnn was so kind to offer to keep him at her house. I am so blessed to have her in my life.

Today (Thursday), I started a new Bible Study at work. It has been so long since I was in Bible Study that I am really looking forward to the weeks ahead. Grant ate his solids (squash) really good for me tonight. I have noticed that if I just hold the spoon out in front of him, he likes to dive for it! I can try to nudge his mouth open, but he likes to be in charge! Hmmm...this could be a sign of things to come.

Kenny will be home tonight and I am really looking forward to seeing him. It wasn't difficult at all taking care of Grant by myself, I just know that I don't think I want to do this by myself very often. I really enjoy our little family! I am glad that tomorrow is Friday. It's about time for this week to be over with!!!

Something A Little More Solid

Grant had his first taste of solid food yesterday. It was pretty interesting trying to feed it to him. The minute the rice cereal would go into his mouth, he would spit it right back out. He does not like to have food on his face, so he would grab his bib and wipe his mouth. One would think that he actually knows what he is doing. Ha!

We tried it again today. We got a few bites down, but most of it ended up on the bib. This will take some time and patience. Who knew feeding a baby solids would be so entertaining. We always seem to laugh at him.

A New Experience in Heartbreak

Sunday morning we woke up to a sick child. Grant was very warm and cranky. Nothing seemed to soothe him. After discovering that he was running a fever, we gave him Tylenol and it didn't seem to make a difference. After talking to the on-call nurse, we headed to Children's Medical Ctr. We had never been there before, so we had an adventure in just getting there. Upon arrival, his temperature was 103.7 - that made me nervous! Grant cried and cried for what seemed like 4 hours non-stop. Prior to this weekend, it has been over two weeks since he had cried. He made up for it on Sunday. Seeing our baby cry and look so miserable just broke our hearts. There was nothing we could do to soothe him. There were times that I think we cried right along with him. We left Children's at around 5 p.m. and we were exhausted. We left not knowing anything different than when we had arrived.

I remember rocking Grant, walking him around the room, singing to him...offering everything I had to give. I think this is exactly how God is with us. I was told many times that having a Child will help you understand God's love for us. I know there are times when God says, "I am here, give Me your burden." And what happens...I just carry it around with me while crying throughout my day.

Grant is improving, we went to the doctor today and they still don't know the cause for the fever. My way of thinking...if they don't find anything, okay...I would rather them not find anything than to find something that could break our hearts even more!

First Time to ROLL OVER

We have had another milestone today...Grant rolled over for the first time. It was very cool to think about how much he has progressed in just the last week. He is now holding his head up for longer periods of time, he is cooing and making all those sweet baby sounds. We definately are proud parents!
This picture is of the first rollover being completed. Do you think it was the A&M blanket he was laying on that motivated him? Hmmm....

Here We Go...

Hi! We are beginning this wonderful journey of blogging. Several people have asked if we have a blog and well...here we go. The things you will find us talking about will be our family, friends, relationships, etc. Our favorite pastime is googling over our new born son, Grant. He is incredible and we feel so blessed to have him.

oh...and any blog tips/layout advice would be wonderful!

Until next time...
